1. No computer after 10 pm 2. Computer stays upstairs where we all have public access to it. 3. Homework takes priority...so if you have some, you may "bump" a sibling who is just on MSN.

We have created a folder on our desktop where our kid's favorites have been added - when on the internet our kid is supervised on a regular basis and can only use that folder for her pleasure. It is opened by our kid who will click on short cut ICONs to access the net for that specific site only. It's been working very well as we can also track her access.
Fran and Rick
We wrote up an Internet contract with our kids because they are spending a lot of time on the computer. Now they have to finish their homework before they can go online. And that includes MSN'ing with friends (which was taking all their attention when they supposed to be working.)

We talk to our kids about what they are doing online. We feel that is a good substitute for rules. We know what they are doing and they feel safe coming to us with any problems they run into. We also have our computer off the kitchen so we can keep an eye on what they are doing.
